Ukraine's CEC considers 98 percent of ballots: Yanukovych is in lead

The Central Election Commission of Ukraine has considered 98.09 percent of protocols of district election commissions, Ukraine's CEC press service said. According to the data, 48.53 percent voted for Viktor Yanukovych in the second round of the presidential elections, but 45.88 percent for Yulia Tymoshenko. Thus, the gap between presidential candidates in Ukraine continues to grow. According to the recent data, this figure hits 2.65percent, RBC reported.

About 4.39 percent did not support any candidate. About 1.19 percent of ballots were invalid. According to the recent data, voter's turnout hit 69.15 percent.

According to a member of the Central Election Commission Michael Ohendovsky, counting of votes is completed at all polling stations. He added that the counting protocols by Ukraine's district commissions is continued, RBC-Ukraine reported.

Ohendovsky also noted that representatives of one of candidates for Ukraine's President artificially prolong the counting of votes at the precinct election commissions in the Crimea and Lugansk region. According to him, consideration of protocols by election commissions hits more than 90 percent throughout Ukraine, 67 percent in the Crimea, 82 percent in the Luhansk region.

It should be noted that according to the results of the first round of the presidential elections in Ukraine the leader of the Party of Regions got 35.32 percent of the vote, and Yulia Timoshenko - 25.05 percent.

The process of summing up the second round of the presidential elections must be completed within 10 days, till February 17. The new president must take office within a month after the election results are announced.
