At least 22 people were killed when their bus plunged into a river in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh, news reports said Wednesday.
"The mishap took place after midnight at Jalaun district's Maharajpura village. The bus skidded off the road and fell into the Pahuj river," IANS news agency quoted local police official Prem Gautam as saying, DPA reported.
The accident occurred near the border with Madhya Pradesh, about 250 kilometres south-west of Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow.
"We believe now no one is trapped inside the bus. We managed to rescue 40 passengers, of which 30 had received injuries in the accident," Gautam said.
The passengers were on their way from Muraina in Madhya Pradesh to Jalaun to attend a wedding.
