Taiwan airport police persuaded a Pakistani man to admit to using a forged passport by asking him to swear before Allah, it was reported Tuesday.
Akhatar Imran, 26, arrived at the Taoyuan International Airport on board an EVA Air flight from Macau Sunday, for a connecting flight to Paris, airport police official Lin Hung-chieh said, DPA reported.
"We found he was using a forged passport and questioned him, but he insisted the passport was genuine," Lin said.
"As the questioning dragged on for hours and he was wasting our time, a police officer remembered that Pakistan is a Muslim country and Muslims fear Allah, so he took Imran to the airport's Muslim prayer room, and asked him to swear to Allah that his passport was not forged.
"At that point, Imran's resistance broke down, and he confessed to using the forged passport to try to go to France and work illegally there," he said.
The suspect was held in custody at the airport overnight, and deported to Macau on Monday, Lin said.
