At least seven people were killed in four road crashes amid heavy rain and strong wind that hit several governorates of Egypt on Thursday.
Six people were killed and 15 were wounded when a mini bus collided with a truck near Mallawi town on Minya-Luxor road in the central part of Egypt, security sources said.
In another accident, one was killed and nine injured during a two-truck crash near the same town, dpa reported.
In the north of Minya, which is some 300 km south of Cairo, two people were injured when a car overturned.
Meanwhile, nine were injured when a mini bus hit a truck in Bergaya village of Minya.
Local sources said four harbors in Suez governorate were closed temporarily due to the bad weather. In Port Said, the fishing port was closed due to high waves.
In Fayoum governorate, some 80 km southwest of Cairo, one fisherman went missing on the Qarun lake and 16 others were injured.
The power supply in several districts of Cairo was interrupted and recovered soon after.
Ali Qoutb, head of Egypt's weather service told Xinhua that heavy rain will continue on Friday in North Sinai governorate Suez city and the Mediterranean coast.
Nationwide heavy rain is rare for a country with an average yearly precipitation of less than 200 millimeters. About 95 percent of Egypt's land is desert.
