The US government has reported that a 7.0 magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of Japan, dpa reported.
The earthquake occurred at 2031 GMT Friday and was centred 81 kilometres east of Japan's southern island of Okinawa, the US Geological Survey reported.
USGS initially estimated the magnitude at 7.3.
