Earthquake jolts northern Pakistan, no casualties

A strong earthquake rattled northern Pakistan early Sunday, but there were no reports of casualties, officials said.

The magnitude-6.2 quake struck 04:21 am (1121 GMT). The epicentre was in the Hindu Kush mountain range in Afghanistan, according to the Meteorological Department, dpa reported.

The tremors with a depth of 68 kilometres also jolted the capital Islamabad and surrounding areas, but there were no reports of damage.

More than 73,000 people were killed when a massive earthquake hit Pakistan-administered Kashmir and the surrounding region in October 2005.
