Seven people died Saturday in a fire at a nursing home in the northern Japanese city of Sapporo, DPA reported.
The two-storey wooden building nearly burned to the ground after a heater started the blaze before dawn, media reports said.
A staff member and a resident were injured at the facility, where eight people suffering from dementia had lived.
