Strong earthquake jolts northern Japan, felt in Tokyo (UPDATE)

A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.6 jolted northern Japan on Sunday, seismologists said, shaking buildings in the capital Tokyo, Reuters reported.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage. The magnitude of the quake, at 5:08 p.m. (0808 GMT), was measured at 6.6 by the U.S. Geological Survey and a Japanese agency.
