15 killed in two road accidents on Java

At least 15 people were killed and dozens injured in two road accidents in Indonesia's Central Java province, media reports said Wednesday, DPA reported.

At least 10 people were killed and 34 injured late Tuesday in Batang district when a speeding bus with about 50 people on board attempted to overtake another vehicle.

The bus lost control and hit a road barrier before rolling into a trailer truck coming the other way, the state-run Antara news agency reported.

Batang police chief Ahmad Lufti quoted survivors as saying they believed the accident was caused by the bus driver's reckless, fast driving.

The other accident, only kilometres away and also late Tuesday, claimed five lives when a truck carrying metal plate rolls overturned after hitting a roadside wall, the news agency reported.
