The pilot and co-pilot were killed when an empty 30-seat commuter plane crashed in the far-north Australian city of Darwin on Monday, dpa reported.
The twin-turboprop plane operated by the carrier Airnorth took off from Darwin Airport but crashed and burst into flames just short of the runway at a nearby Air Force base.
Air Services Australia in Canberra said the incident involved a Brazilian-made Embraer 120.
"There was an aircraft crash at Darwin this morning," a spokesman said. "We don't believe there were any passengers on board, which is good news."
