An unidentified man ran onto the pitch at Johannesburg's Soccer City stadium shortly before the teams came out for the World Cup final between the Netherlands and Spain, dpa reported.
The man ran toward the gold World Cup trophy, which was displayed on a pedestal, and was overpowered by a half-dozen security officials just before reaching it.
He was then immediately led away through the passageway in which the teams were waiting.
