Chinese demonstrators have taken to the streets to condemn Japan's interception of a Chinese fishing boat near a chain of disputed Islands, Press TV reported.
The protester gather in front of the Japanese Embassy in Beijing, on Wednesday -- one day after the Japanese Coast Guard vessels stopped a Chinese boat near the Diaoyu Islands in the East China Sea, arresting its captain.
Beijing has officially protested the move, calling it an illegal interception of the country's fishing boats.
Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Hu Zhengyue also summoned the Japanese Ambassador Uichiro Niwa to lodge a fresh protest, Xinhua reported.
Hu demanded called Tokyo to immediately release the ship and its crew members and guarantee their safety. He stressed that Japan should not continue with such acts in the future.
The disputed string of five islands is located in an area believed to hold oil reserves. The islands, which are currently controlled by Tokyo, had long been claimed by Beijing and Taipei.
