At least four army personnel were killed after a military helicopter crashed in India's north-eastern state of Sikkim, news reports said Friday.

The locally-built Advanced Light Helicopter Dhruv went missing hours after it took off on a routine training exercise from a base in the adjoining state of West Bengal on Thursday, DPA reported.

The wreckage was recovered in the state's remote northern region near the border with China early Friday, the CNN-IBN network reported quoting army sources.

The bodies of two pilots and two soldiers were found at the scene, the report said.

The army ordered a probe to establish the cause of the accident although preliminary investigations indicated that the crash occurred due to bad weather.

The 5.5-ton multi-role helicopter was introduced in the Indian army recently.

The helicopter has also been exported to Israel and Nepal and is being considered by several countries for military and commercial uses.
