A Pakistani court on Monday handed down 45-day jail sentences and 10,000-rupee (110-dollar) fines to family members of former al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden after convicting them of illegally entering and staying in the country, DPA reported.

Judge Shahrukh Arjumand imposed the punishments after a trial lasting one month.

Those punished were his three widows, two of them from Saudi Arabia and one from Yemen, and two daughters.

The judge said that they had already served a 31-days while being tried and would remain in jail for 14 more days before deportation to their home countries.

They were captured by Pakistani officers in May after bin Laden was killed in a covert US operation in Abbottabad, 61 kilometres north-east of the capital Islamabad.
