At least 63 people died and 715 were injured Friday in south-western China's Yiliang county, close to the epicentre of two earthquakes in Yunnan province, reported dpa.
The quakes affected more than 450,000 people in the county, destroying 3,961 houses and seriously damaging 13,876 others, the provincial government quoted a preliminary report from Yiliang as saying.
Forty-six people died in Yiliang's worst-hit township of Luozehe, the report said.
About 4,400 head of livestock were killed as the quakes destroyed or damaged thousands of farm buildings, it said.
