Ten workers died Tuesday in an explosion and fire at a gas plant operated by the state-owned oil company Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex), dpa reported.
The mishap ocurred early Tuesday on the Reynosa-Monterrey road. The plant collects gas extracted in the Burgos region and delivers it to Pemex Gas, the company said in a statement.
"The emergency response plan immediately went into force, and we proceeded to close the valves that transport gas, while Pemex fire units and state and municipal firefighters arrived at the site," Pemex said.
The fire was extinguished, the company said. The accident damaged measurement equipment, a pipeline and some valves, according to a preliminary evaluation.
