Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez was re-elected Sunday with 54.42 per cent of the votes, according to preliminary official results made public by the National Electoral Council, dpa reported.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez was re-elected Sunday with 54.42 per cent of the votes, according to preliminary official results made public by the National Electoral Council, dpa reported.

Chavez's rival, Henrique Capriles, received 44.97 per cent of the votes, based on a count of 90 per cent of the ballots.
