More than 60 killed in Ivory Coast New Year's Eve stampede

More than 60 people were killed and more than 200 injured in a stampede early Tuesday at a New Year's Eve celebration in Abidjan, the Ivory Coast's largest city, state TV reported.

The victims were crushed to death when a crowd panicked after a fireworks display in Plateau District, Abidjan's business centre, according to RTI TV.

Many of the victims were under 15. The cause of the stampede was not immediately known, DPA reported.
