Hugo Chavez is back home in Venezuela after more than two months of cancer treatment in Cuba, the president posted Monday on Twitter, dpa reported.
"We have arrived again to the Venezuelan homeland. Thank you, my God!! Thank you, beloved people!! We shall continue the treatment here," Chavez posted on Twitter.
The first photographs of Chavez since the cancer surgery on December 11 were released by the government on Friday.
They showed Chavez breathing through a tracheal tube. He was lying in bed and smiling, photographed next to his daughters Maria and Rosa Virginia. In one picture, Chavez appeared to be reading Cuban Communist Party daily Granma.
Left-wing populist Chavez, 58, was re-elected in October, but missed the scheduled swearing-in ceremony in January. The Supreme Court ruled that Chavez's absence was not cause for disqualification, because he was not a newly elected president.
"Thank you Fidel, Raul and all of Cuba!!" Chavez wrote, referring to Cuban leader Raul Castro and his brother, Fidel Castro.
"Thank you Venezuela for so much love!!"
He added: "I am still clinging to Christ and trust my doctors and nurses. Victory always!! We shall live, and we shall win!!"
Chavez has undergone four operations for an unspecified form of cancer since mid-2011, the latest of them was in December.
