The African Union plans to increase its troops in the Central African Republic to 6,000, Elysee Palace said, dpa reported.

The union now has 2,500 soldiers in the country that has suffered months of militia attacks and sectarian violence.

The troop increase was decided at a two-day France-African summit in Paris, which was focussed on stabilizing the Central African Republic.
