Russia urges incentives for Iran on nuclear issue

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Wednesday the world should offer incentives to help Iran make the "right decision" on nuclear weapons, which he said Tehran should not be allow to have, Reuters reported.

Medvedev was speaking after a meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama that Obama said focused largely on Iran, which Washington believes is trying to obtain nuclear weapons, a charge Iran denies.

"Our task is to maintain a system of incentives allowing Iran to use peaceful nuclear energy but (we) will not allow the creation of nuclear weapons," Medvedev said. "We believe it is necessary to help Iran make the right decision."

Medvedev, who is under pressure from the United States and other Western nations to consider further sanctions against Iran, said that in some cases, sanctions can be inevitable.
