The Russia-U.S. strategic arms reduction treaty could enter into force in early February, President Dmitry Medvedev said on Friday after signing off on the New START treaty ratification documents, RIA Novosti reported.

The treaty will formally enter into force after the exchange of ratification instruments, which is due to take place at the upcoming meeting between the two countries' foreign ministers, he said.

"I have discussed this with the president of the United States," Medvedev said, adding that the exchange will take place during a meeting between Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and State Secretary Hillary Clinton.

The meeting could take place in Munich on February 4-5.
