Space shuttle launch delayed

The planned Sunday launch of the Space Shuttle Endeavour has been postponed 24 hours due to bad weather, NASA has announced.

Low cloud cover over the space station at Cape Canaveral in Florida was blamed for the delay of the mission, which will see six astronauts blast off to visit the International Space Station, dpa reported.

The launch is now scheduled for Monday, at 0914 GMT.

That launch will mark the beginning of the end of NASA's nearly 29-year-old space shuttle programme, which is scheduled to be retired in September.

Endeavour - when it launches - will be followed by just four more shuttle flights to complete construction of the International Space Station (ISS).

Endeavour has a six-window viewing area from which astronauts will have a panoramic look at Earth, the station and visiting spacecraft.
