Chinese President Hu Jintao is to travel to the United States for a nuclear security summit this month, Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said Thursday,
DPA reported.
Hu will visit Washington for the April 12-13 summit hosted by US President Barack Obama, and then travel on to Brazil, Venezuela and Chile, Qin told reporters.
In Brazil, Hu is to take part in an April 14-17 leaders' meeting of the "BRIC" nations, referring to Brazil, Russia, India and China.
Some analysts had expressed doubt about Hu's attendance at the Washington summit because of recent tension between the United States and China over US arms sales to Taiwan and other issues.
