Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili has discussed perspectives of Georgian-American relations, including security and economy perspectives with the members of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations during his visit to the United States.

The special attention was paid to free trade with Georgia, situation in the occupied territories and regional security.

The U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations chairman John Kerry, Senators Richard Lugar, Ben Cardin, Tom Udall and Jeanne Shahin took part in the meeting.

Senators have expressed their support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia. They also welcomed the Georgian intention to enter NATO and appraised the democratic and economic reforms in Georgia.

Saakashvili thanked the U.S. for the resolution in which Abkhazia and so-called South Ossetia are listed as occupied territories.

Georgian president hold the second meeting with Senator Jeanne Shahin. This meeting was concentrated on the economic achievements and anticorruption reforms that were highlighted in the World Bank report.
