Petition calling for opening Turkish-Armenian border published on White House website

Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 7 / Trend /

Collection of signatures has been launched on the website of White House under a petition calling Turkish government to open the border with Armenia for Syrian refugees without any preconditions.

The collection of signatures began on January 5, and 111 signatures have been collected to date.

The petition will be reviewed by White House staff, if it gets enough support of 25,000 signatures by February 4.

There are no diplomatic relations between Turkey and Armenia, and the border between the two countries has been closed since 1993. The reasons are that the Armenians claim for international recognition of the so-called genocide and that the Armenian armed forces have occupied Azerbaijani territories.
