Hovannisian to speak on results of meeting with Armenian president at tomorrow’s rally

The leader of the opposition party, the Heritage party Raffi Hovhannisyan has promised to talk to his his supporters on the results of the recently concluded meeting with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan at the rally tomorrow, News-Armenia reported.

The leader of the opposition party, the Heritage party Raffi Hovhannisyan has promised to talk to his his supporters on the results of the recently concluded meeting with Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan at the rally tomorrow, News-Armenia reported.

A rally of Hovhannisyan's supporters authorized by city hall will take place at Freedom Square on Friday.

Hovannisian, who does not recognize the results of the February 18 presidential elections, decided to meet with Sargsyan on Thursday.

Addressing rally participants waiting for him outside presidential residence, Hovannisian urged them to disperse, as he will have a number of important diplomatic meetings.

Hovhannisyan recently stated that together with his supporters, he will await the arrival of the incumbent president "for a voluntary transfer of power" at Freedom Square. However, on Thursday he himself went to the residence of the head of state. The politician was accompanied by hundreds of supporters.

Today's meeting with the president took place behind closed doors, without participation of journalists. Hovannisian's son and his personal cameraman were also allowed in the president's residence.

Raffi Hovannisian, who ran in the presidential election on February 18 and according to official date placed second, does not recognize the results and wants to hold a rally at Freedom Square on February 22.

Presidential elections were held in Armenia on Feb.18. Incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan won the election winning 58.64 per cent of the vote. The First Foreign Minister of Armenia Raffi Hovannisian ranked second winning 36.75 per cent, while former Prime Minister Hrant Bagratyan ranked third after receiving 2.15 per cent of the vote.
