Criminal proceedings initiated in Armenia over violation of election’s secrecy

In accordance with a decision of the Deputy Prosecutor General of Armenia, Military Prosecutor Gevorg Kostanian, criminal proceedings under Article 154 of the Armenian Criminal Code for violation of secrecy of an election have been initiated, the press service of the Prosecutor General told Armenian media.

In accordance with a decision of the Deputy Prosecutor General of Armenia, Military Prosecutor Gevorg Kostanian, criminal proceedings under Article 154 of the Armenian Criminal Code for violation of secrecy of an election have been initiated, the press service of the Prosecutor General told Armenian media.

The election headquarters of presidential candidate Raffi Hovannisian shared a photo, showing the military man being monitored during voting.

Earlier, the Defense Ministry reported that "in spite of the possibility of coordination of military men, the Defense Minister offered to inform about when and at which polling station the photo was taken, in order to clarify the details of the incident and punish the possible perpetrators."

Then, press secretary of the Heritage party Hovsep Khurshudyan reported that the photo was taken at the polling station 29/13.
Presidential elections were held in Armenia on Feb.18. Incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan won the presidential elections winning 58.64 per cent of the vote. The First Foreign Minister of Armenia Raffi Hovannisian ranked second winning 36.75 per cent, while former Prime Minister Hrant Bagratyan ranked third after receiving 2.15 per cent of the vote.
