Armenian CEC rejects claim of Heritage party leader Hovannisian

The Central Election Commission of Armenia has rejected the claims of opposition Heritage party leader Raffi Hovannisian to invalidate the registration of incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan's candidacy on presidential election held on February 18, Novosti-Armenia agency reported.

Hovhannisyan does not recognize the election results and has held rallies in Yerevan and regions of Armenia from February 20.

The claim was submitted to the CEC by Hovhannisian's plenipotentiary representative, deputy chairman of the party Armen Martirosyan. He explained the claim by the fact that Sargsyan's declaration of election expenses did not include the funds spent on rent of over a thousand on campaign headquarters and posters.

The CEC head threw out the refusal, in particular, because its costs are not covered by the definition of campaign funds.

According to the CEC's final data, Sargsyan won 861.373 votes, or 58.64 percent. Hovhannisyan ranked second with 36.74 percent. The other five candidates received less than 5 percent of the vote.
