The number of registered cases of drug trafficking rather increased in Armenia, news.am website reported on June 26.

Some 443 cases were revealed in the country for the first five months of this year compared to 331 cases for the same period of last year, deputy chief of drug trafficking department of the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime Tigran Sahakyan said. Currently, some 166 people were prosecuted. Minors make up an extremely small percentage. The number of drug addicts also increased. Some 264 people continue treatment at the clinic.

"Drugs are mainly transported to Armenia from Iran and Turkey," he said. "Some drugs are on the local market, the other part is transited. At the same time, some drug-containing plants are grown in the country. The police conduct special operations and destroy these crops.
