Tbilisi Court of Appeal doesn’t satisfy appeal of convicted for terrorism

Tbilisi Court of Appeal upheld the sentences against the accused in the terror attacks in Georgia. Thus they were denied the satisfaction of the appeal.

Tbilisi City Court awarded sentence for 15 defendants accused of terrorist attacks on the territory of Georgia on June 28, 2011. In particular, the representative of the Russian armed forces stationed in Abkhazia, Yevgeniy Borisov, Merab Kolbaya, Gogita Arkania, Joni Abuladze, Gocha Khurtsilava and David Kekutiya have been sentenced to 30 years in prison. Mukhran Tshadaya was sentenced to imprisonment for life. Borisov, Mukhran Tshadaya and Melor Tshadaya were sentenced in absentia. The court did not disclose the personality of the other prisoners. Dzhamlet Matkava and Goderdzi Arkan, who had been sentenced to 25 years imprisonment, are among them.

The Court of Appeal tries a case of 7 convicted, Merab Kolbaya, Gogita and Goderdzi Arkania, Joni Abuladze, David Kekutiya, Lela Khurtsilava and Miriam Nikolava, the press service of the court told.

Gogita Arkania accused of terrorist attacks take the blame upon himself in his last word on today's proceedings, saying that he was guilty and the others are innocent. However, Arkania took the blame only for acts of terrorism in Tbilisi.

The other defendants said they are innocent. But the court did not accept their arguments.
