In Tbilisi on Sunday morning arrived U.S. Republican Senator Richard Lugar. He has already held a meeting behind closed doors with representatives of the Georgian opposition. The meeting lasted about an hour and after Lugar did not make a statement.

In Tbilisi on Sunday morning arrived U.S. Republican Senator Richard Lugar. He has already held a meeting behind closed doors with representatives of the Georgian opposition. The meeting lasted about an hour and after Lugar did not make a statement.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the "Georgia Dream" coalition - the leader of the Republican Party David Usupashvili, leader of the "Free Democrats" Irakli Alasania and former Georgian Foreign Minister Tedo Japaridze, as well as the leader of the Christian Democratic Movement Giorgi Targamadze.

As stated by the opposition after the meeting, during a conversation Lugar touched on the Georgian-American relations, external threats to Georgia and the U.S. role in their disgust, as well as the previous parliamentary elections in Georgia.

The American guests arrived in Georgia in connection with the awarding of the Central Reference Laboratory of Public Health name of Richard Lugar. This honor is presented to Republican senator for his contribution to the reduction of nuclear, chemical and biological threats in the world.

In addition, Richard Lugar and Andrew Weber will take part in the ceremony of laying the foundation of the administrative building of the National Center for Disease Control of Georgia.
This building will house offices of CDC and the Walter Reed U.S. Army Institute of Research.
