Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has laid the foundation of the new Olympic stadium in Batumi. It will be ready in a year and a half and be one of the city’s sightseeing highlights.

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has laid the foundation of the new Olympic stadium in Batumi. It will be ready in a year and a half and be one of the city's sightseeing highlights.

The stadium can accommodate 35,000 spectators. It was designed by Georgian architect David Gogichaishvili.

Saakashvili expressed the hope that the European and World Championships will be held in Georgia sooner or later. Such a stadium is required. He stressed that the new stadium will enrich the city's infrastructure.

The complex will be built by the same company that is building the Batumi Technical University
