During its official visit to Poland, the delegation of the Georgian parliament held a meeting at the office of the OSCE in Warsaw dedicated to the protection of human rights and democratic institutions.

During the meeting, the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament David Usupashvili and the head of the office Janez Lenarcic discussed the policies of the new government after the parliamentary elections in Georgia.

As reported by the Parliament of Georgia on Thursday, Usupashvili said at the meeting that the work of the OSCE and the ODIHR is very important in terms of democratic development of the country and therefore, the new government intends to revisit the issue and put it on the agenda.

According to him, the opinions of experts of the OSCE Office are important for Georgia in the sense of helping it to avoid the mistakes of the past government.

"We are interested in the continuation of your help and do not want the friendly European countries to repeat the mistakes of 2004, when they decided that after the arrival of the new government, the country would operate in new ways. The presidential election in Georgia is scheduled for this autumn, and the elections to local self-government are expected next year. Participation of OSCE observers in the election process will be very important and useful," Usupashvili said.
