Employees of the Anti-Corruption Agency under the country's Interior Ministry detained several senior officials of the Agriculture Ministry in Georgia.

According to the Georgian Interior Ministry on Thursday, the detainees include the chief of department of the Georgian Agriculture Ministry Omar Tedoradze, director of the Institute of mechanisation under the Agriculture Ministry Zaza Makharoblidze, director of Mechanizatori Ltd., Vazha Nakhutsrishvili and his deputies - Mamuka Ivanidze and Besik Tetvadze, as well as Professor of Agrarian University Otar Karchava.

All the detainees are accused of embezzling budget funds of a subsrantial amount and professional negligence, as well as putting pressure on experts.

In particular the question is about misappropriation of two million lari ($1 = 1.66 lari) from a 54 million lari budget allocated towards agriculture.
