The first stage of 2014 Georgian general national census will begin on July 1.

This was stated by the Georgian Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure David Narmania and Gruzstat director Zaza Chelidze at a joint briefing on Friday.

Narmania said that, the first phase of the census will cover three regions - Adjara, Guria and Kakheti. From November 2013, the drawing up of provisional lists will start in other regions.

"According to general census methodology, it is necessary to take a census of all buildings and people actually living in them. Such lists will be drawn up for all villages and cities in the country," Narmania said.

Zaza Chelidze called upon the population of Georgia to cooperate in the census process.

"Ultimately, this information will be used to enable the Government to plan social programs more effectively," Chelidze said.

The budget of the project amounts to 18 million Georgian lari ($ 1 = 1.64 lari).
The first results of the national census will be announced in the spring of 2013.
The last census was held in Georgia in 2002.
