Georgian authorities intend to hold the forthcoming presidential elections in a transparent and competitive environment, the First Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia David Zalkaliani told on Thursday after meeting with representatives of the Office for the Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) monitoring mission.

The ODIHR mission will observe the presidential elections in Georgia which are scheduled for October 27.

"It was stressed at the meeting that the electoral environment has improved, compared with the situation in 2012 (On October 1 parliamentary elections were held.) I briefed the OSCE Mission on the position of Georgian authorities, who believe that these elections should be the most transparent and competitive over the last 20 years," Zalkaliani told journalists after the meeting.

Representatives of the Georgian Foreign Ministry briefed the delegation ODIHR on measures conducted by the Georgian government and aimed at improving the electoral environment.

As Zalkaliani stressed, the presidential elections in Georgia will be observed by the international community, and the elections will be evaluated objectively.

The OSCE is to send 24 long-term and 300 short-term observers to Georgia . The long-term observers will arrive in Georgia on September 23.
