Georgia will extradite the ex-Defense Minister, David Kezerashvili from France within 40 days, Georgian Justice Minister, Tea Tsulukiani told journalists on Wednesday.
Kezerashvili was arrested in France on Tuesday at the request of the Georgian side, which accused the ex-Defense Minister of misappropriation of $12 million.
French court chose 40 days of arrest against the former Defense Minister as a measure of restraint, and the issue of his extradition will be solved during this time.
According to Tsulukiani, otherwise a request will be sent to the French side for an extension of ex-Defense Minister's arrest, as it is usually done in any other classic cases of extradition.
Georgian Minister said that she sent a letter of gratitude to her French colleagues, in which she underlined that the two countries have demonstrated a good example of cooperation.
According to her, the former Defense Minister and now a businessman, David Kezerashvili was not wanted on Interpol Red Circular, but Georgian Bureau of Interpol and their French colleagues did a good teamwork.
"The Legal Provision Department of the Prosecutor General's Office of Georgia also did a very good job. Yesterday the French court chose a 40 day pre-extradition imprisonment against Kezerashvili. During this period the government and the Prosecutor's Office should submit materials on criminal cases, which have been initiated against him. These are two criminal cases. One is related to money laundering, and the second to corruption," Tsulukiani said.
