A French court has kept Georgian former Defence Minister David Kezerashvili in custody. The hearing took place on Thursday.

Kezerashvili, who has both Georgian and Israeli citizenship, was arrested at Nice airport on Oct. 14, when he tried to fly to Albania. On October 15 the court of Aix-en-Provence issued a preliminary detention for 40 days, but lawyers filed an appeal to change the measure of restraint and release him on bail.

Kezerashvili is accused upon Article 338, paragraphs 2 and 3 of the Georgian Criminal Code (large scale bribery), Article 214 paragraphs 2 and 6 (violation of customs regulations by an organised group, causing large scale damage), Article 194 paragraph 3 (money laundering and / or receiving illegal large scale income by an organised group) and Article 182 paragraph 3 (large scale misappropriation / embezzlement by an organised group).
