The participation of the Georgian government delegation at the opening ceremony and events at the Sochi Olympics is not being considered at this stage, Georgian Minister of Youth and Sport Levan Kipiani told media today.

As for the country's sportsmen, they must take part at the Winter Olympics in Sochi.

"A decision on the sportsmen's participation at the Olympics was made," he said. "It will be known later whether the Georgian government delegation will go to Sochi. This topic has not yet been discussed. Representatives of the ministry and the government will not go."

Large scale military action was launched in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008. Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military.

Russia recognised the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August. In response, Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow and has called the two unrecognised republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
