Court hearings on opposition rally dispersal scheduled for Dec. 11

Tbilisi, Georgia, Dec. 11

By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:

Tbilisi City Court Judge Ketevan Jachvadze did not grant the lawyer's petition to cease the criminal prosecution of former Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili and set the next proceedings on the opposition rally dispersal for Dec.11 at 12:00.

Merabishvili's lawyer said that the prosecution had to be ceased because the case did not have criminal elements.

According to the experts' opinion, the unsanctioned rally dispersal on May 26 was legal.

"Excessive use of force by some police officers does not mean that it is Merabishvili's fault," Merabishvili's lawyer Otar Kahidze said. "I am sure that if the court withstands political pressure, it will make the acquittal."
