Court of Appeal maintains Tbilisi mayor’s freedom

Tbilisi, Georgia, Dec.26
By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:

The Court of Appeal didn't satisfy the petition of lawyers of Tbilisi mayor Gigi Ugulava and the Prosecutor's Office on Dec.26.

The petition of the prosecutor who demanded changes to the decision of the court with regard to Ugulava hoped for a preventive measure in the form of a pledge for his arrest.

The court also considered the petition of Ugulava's lawyers in which they asked the court to abandon the preventive measure or to release Ugulava under the responsibility of MPs.

Lawyers also demanded the cancellation of the decision on the temporary suspension of the powers of the mayor of Tbilisi.

Thus, the court's decision remained in the force according to which Ugulava must give some 50,000 lari ($1= 1.72 lari) as pledge within 20 days.
