An agency for digital broadcasting is being created at the Georgian Economy and Sustainable Development Ministry.
The agency for digital broadcasting is being created in order to coordinate the transition from analogue broadcasting to digital one in Georgia, according to a resolution, which was approved yesterday at a government meeting.
The agency's main activities will include the implementation of the state policy in the area of electronic communications and broadcasting, providing assistance in highly effective use of radio frequencies; providing assistance in the transition of Georgian Public Broadcaster and other existing broadcasters to digital broadcasting.
Its activity will also include assistance in distribution of available and free TV channels; provision of the population with individual digital decoders, and provision of the low-income population with free decoders, as well as, planning information campaign in the country for transition to the digital broadcasting and its coordination.
The agency's budget will amount to 20 million laris (1.76 lari = $1) and will be financed by Georgian Economy and Sustainable Development Ministry.
It is expected that the agency will terminate its activities in late 2015.
