Temperature across the country could drop by an average of 10 degrees in Georgia on January 31, the Georgian National Environmental Protection Agency said on Thursday.
The country will be covered by a cold air mass today, according to the report.
The air temperature in the low-lying areas of eastern Georgia will hit 10-15 degrees below zero and in the mountains 17-22 degrees below zero. Precipitation in the form of rain and snow is expected across the entire territory of Georgia in early February.
Such abnormal cold weather has been registered in the country five times from 1970 and 1990 and three times in 2000s in Tbilisi.
The previous sharp drop in temperature in Georgia was recorded in 2012.
The unstable cold weather will be observed in Georgia until late February, according to weather forecasts.
The air temperature will reach from two to four degrees Celsius in Tbilisi on January 30.
