Tbilisi, Georgia, March 12
By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:
Georgian ex-President, Mikheil Saakashvili's party, the United National Movement, will nominate Nika Melia's candidacy for Tbilisi mayor. This became known on March 12 after a press conference at the party's office.
Another candidate of the United National Movement, Giorgi Vashadze refused to fight Melia in the primaries (type of voting, in which one candidate from a political party is selected), calling on his supporters to vote for Melia.
Vashadze stressed that he shares Melia's position on reforming the party. Nika Melia is Governor of Tbilisi's Mtatsminda district.
Elections for the Tbilisi mayor will be held on June 15.
