Tbilisi, Georgia, April 15
By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:
The Georgian foreign ministry has sent official invitations to the international organizations to send observers for the local elections.
The invitations were sent to the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (February 7 and March 11), the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe (March 11), the National Democratic Institute (March 14) and International Republican Institute (March 14), the foreign ministry said.
In its response letter on March 19, the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) thanked the Georgian side for the invitation and said that it would fail to send its observers due to the budget problems. If the budget problems are solved, ODIHR may reconsider its decision.
The rest of the international organizations have not responded yet.
