The pardon commission under the Georgian president gave the positive recommendations for about 100 prisoners.
The cases of about 500 prisoners were considered. But the positive recommendations were given for 100 of them. Some of them will be released. The prison sentence will be reduced for others. Men, women and minors are among the pardoned, chairman of the commission Aleko Elisashvili said on April 16.
Elisashvili stressed that this is the first act of pardon as part of the new provision about the commission.
A list of candidates for pardon was sent to President Margvelashvili for signing on April 16. A pardon decree will be signed in the coming days. The prisoners are to be released on April 20, when Christians celebrate Easter.
