The chairman of Georgian parliament David Usupashvili has met with the newly elected Israeli President Reuven Rivlin.

The Israeli president congratulated the guest with signing the association agreement with EU and wished success in the process of integration into Europe, Georgian parliament told Trend.

The two sides discussed the situation in Israel and the current status of the Georgian-Russian relations.

"I am glad to have an opportunity to meet with the speaker of Georgian parliament. David Usupashvili visited Israel in such a hard time, which shows the great friendship between Israel and Georgia. Our people, parliaments and governments have close friendly ties and I hope that this will continue in the future as well," Rivlin said.

The Georgian parliament speaker is also expected to meet with the chairman of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Ze'ev Elkin and opposition leader Isaac Herzog.
