Tbilisi, Georgia, Sept.7
By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:

Georgian servicemen, serving at the Camp Phoenix military base of the U.S. in Kabul, Afghanistan, returned home on Sept.7.

The reinforced platoon of the 13th Battalion of the First Infantry Brigade of the Georgian armed forces provided the security of the Camp Phoenix throughout five months.

The platoon returned home without any losses, and its servicemen were awarded with NATO medals.

Georgian and Afghan defense ministries signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen their cooperation.

Georgia will share with Afghanistan its experience in holding reforms in the military sphere and will take part in the program for retraining the Afghan armed forces.

Georgia joined the NATO operation in Afghanistan in 2009.

Georgia has sent one of the largest contingents (around 1,500 servicemen) to Afghanistan among the countries that are not NATO members.
