Construction of a new multifunctional port in Anaklia, a city in Georgia's western province of Samegrelo, is one of the most successful projects of Georgian government, the country's prime minister, Irakli Garibashvili told reporters.
He was commenting on his visit to the United States.
Garibashvili said that during the visit he met with the heads of major companies and acquainted them with the economic projects in Georgia.
He said Anaklia's location is distinguishable for its advantages, adding that the construction of an infrastructure facility of this scale is very important for Georgia.
"We continue working to invite businessmen," Garibashvili said "Aside from that, the economy minister met with entrepreneurs who are keen on investing in our country's economy."
"I'd like to reiterate that the Anaklia port has great strategic importance, particularly given the project of revival of the Great Silk Road," the prime minister said.
In August 2014, Georgian government invited local and international companies to take part in a competition for construction of a new multifunctional port in Anaklia.
Under an order of the Georgian government a commission was set up to review applications submitted for participation in a poll of interests. The commission is headed by the PM Garibashvili.
